DFT stands for Dry Film Thickness—the thickness of the coating after it has fully dried or cured (i.e., after all solvent or water has evaporated).
Why it matters:
It determines the actual protective barrier you’ll have against heat and flame.
Most fire-resistant coatings specify a required DFT (e.g. 30 mils) to achieve a given fire rating.
You measure DFT with a dry-film gauge once the coating is fully set.
